The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office confirms that in September, someone from Card's unit at the Army Reserve base in Saco asked for a wellness check on Card at his home in Bowdoin. The state police were called, and he was later taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation. In July, police say Card was involved in Army Reserve training in New York when his regiment reported him behaving erratically. He also says a deputy spoke with Card's Army Reserve training group in New York and connected them with Card’s family, who assured the sheriff's office that Card would receive medical attention. The sheriff says the family was concerned about his wellbeing and access to guns. Police were first contacted about Card by his family in May to report that his mental health had been declining since January. The report was initiated by the sheriff's office. BATH, Maine (WGME) - The Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office says an independent review of their actions involving Robert Card before the Lewiston mass shootings found that they responded reasonably under the circumstances at the time.
